Psalm for the Day
June 3rd, 2010I trust this “short but sweet” letter finds you abundantly blessed and enjoying these early summer days! Psalms 116 says—
1 I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.?
2 Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!?
3 Death wrapped its ropes around me;? the terrors of the grave overtook me. ?I saw only trouble and sorrow.?
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:? “Please, Lord, save me!”?
5 How kind the Lord is! How good he is!? So merciful, this God of ours!?
6 The Lord protects those of childlike faith;? I was facing death, and he saved me.
7 Let my soul be at rest again,? for the Lord has been good to me.?
8 He has saved me from death,? my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.?
9 And so I walk in the Lord’s presence? as I live here on earth!?
10 I believed in you, so I said,? “I am deeply troubled, Lord.”?
11 In my anxiety I cried out to you,? “These people are all liars!”?
12 What can I offer the Lord? for all he has done for me??
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation ?and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.?
14 I will keep my promises to the Lord? in the presence of all his people.
David knew about calling on the Lord. This beautiful psalm is from the heart of a man who knew his God. I have been meditating on this passage and pray it will encourage you as well. What can we offer the Lord for all He has done for us? Has God been good to you? Of course, and He hears us when we call upon Him.
The simplicity in which David prays this prayer really speaks my heart so well. What can I do? I will lift the cup of salvation (a toast if you will) and praise Him for His goodness and His faithfulness.
God knows I will be His voice in the earth! I will be a testimony for His namesake! You O Lord hear my voice and my prayers come up before you as a sweet smelling savor. I will forever praise your name and keep my vows to you Oh Lord!
As we call on the name of the Lord this week, let’s be praying for:
• Our church and its ministries
• The members of CWC for safe travels and a restful summer
• Austin Worship Explosion June 24-26
• Our 4th of July Family Picnic
• Kids Centre VBS July 5-9
• Thank the Lord for giving us our property and provision to take possession
• Pray for services this weekend and that the lost will be saved and lives will be restored
Friends, have a blessed week. I have the privilege of sharing the Word in the Sunday service and God has put a powerful message on my heart that will bless, encourage you and strengthen you.
Also, don’t forget—tonight our Four12 Youth will be meeting at 6:00 in the Green Building while we gather for a powerful time of prayer at Recharge! Join us won’t you? You will certainly be blessed!
